About this product

Etched & Engraved Glasses

Etching is subtraction. A mask is cut to your artwork, the glass is blasted with abrasive, and what is left is a frosted recess in the surface with your mark in it. Nothing has been added to the glass, which is why nothing can come off it — not in a commercial dishwasher, not after five years of service, not under a scouring pad.

That permanence is the reason venues specify it. A restaurant that etches its house glassware is buying a mark that will still be legible when the glass is finally broken, rather than a print that fades into a ghost after two seasons and starts looking cheap. It is also the reason etched glasses photograph the way they do: the frost catches light instead of reflecting it, so the logo reads from across a room without shouting.

The constraint is color. Etching gives you one tone — frosted white against clear glass — so a multi-color logo has to be reduced to a single-color silhouette. Most marks survive that reduction well, and some improve. If yours does not, or if the artwork is a photograph or a gradient, full-color printing is the honest answer and we will say so.

Fine detail holds down to about 0.4 mm, which covers serif type, thin crests and hairline rules. Send the file in any format and we will redraw it as vector for free, then mock it up on the exact glass shape within 24 hours.

FAQ

Etched & Engraved Glasses: quick answers

How long does etching last?
As long as the glass. The mark is a recess cut into the surface, so there is no layer to wear through — commercial dishwashers, abrasives and years of service leave it unchanged.
Can you etch a multi-color logo?
Etching produces one tone, so a multi-color mark is converted to a single-color silhouette. We show you that conversion on the mockup before anything is cut. If it loses too much, we will recommend full-color printing instead.
What is the difference between sandblast etching and laser engraving?
Sandblasting gives a deeper, softer frost and suits larger areas; laser engraving gives finer detail and a slightly glossier mark. We choose based on your artwork and tell you which we used.
Do you charge for artwork setup?
No. Vector redraw, layout and the 24-hour mockup are all free, and there is no plate or screen charge.
